Spend tool helps Mississippi hospital reduce supply chain expense by $10M
Baptist Health Systems includes the Baptist Medical Center, The Mississippi Hospital for Restorative Care, and a number of related healthcare services and programs in the Jackson, Miss., area. From its beginnings in 1911, Baptist has grown to include a 564-bed medical center, along with a variety of health and medical services including heart services, oncology and women’s services .
Situation:
Expenses can be one of the biggest determining factors of whether a hospital is profitable or not, so it is important that there is a way to closely monitor and track the information.
Solution:
Baptist Health Systems in Mississippi was using Premier’s Supply Chain Advisor™, but added the SpendAdvisor™ MySpend™ tool. While Supply Chain Advisor helped them assess their overall supply chain in real time, SpendAdvisor specifically helped them analyze their total supply spend, identify savings opportunities and maximize contract utilization.
Result:
In one year, Baptist doubled supply chain savings to more than $10 million.
"We use Supply Chain Advisor and SpendAdvisor as resources to make
intelligent decisions related to supply purchases. We have peers who can’t even
tell you how many pacemakers they buy in a year, much less what they pay for
them. I can tell exactly how many I bought and what I paid for them. That kind
of information brings power when we go to the negotiating table."
