The Web-based electronic energy auction is part of Premier's energy initiative, Securing Proven Healthcare Energy Reduction (for the) Ecosystem, or SPHERE, designed to help hospitals reduce their energy cost, usage and carbon footprint.
The reverse auction is being offered by Premier in partnership with Practice Greenhealth and its Healthcare Clean Energy Exchange as the industry's first, large-scale, healthcare reverse auction for the procurement of energy (electricity and natural gas) and environmental commodities (e.g., renewable energy certificates and carbon offsets), to increase the percentage of green/renewable energy purchases.
